HFSS

High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) is one of the leading software, sponsored by ANSYS, which effectively helps engineers all over the world to analyze electromagnetic components such waveguide transitions and antenna system.

The Finite Element Method is the numerical technique used by HFSS. This method works by dividing the structure into smaller parts where each part would form a tetrahedron shape. The summation of all the tetrahedra will form a mesh for the component stretcher. As a result, the correlation between all of the tetrahedra allows Maxwell’s Equations to be satisfied throughout the mesh. Finally, the satisfied mesh will populate a field solution that results in a S-matrix that can be presented as a 2D graph(www.ansys.com).

Space Machine and Engineering has been utilizing HFSS as a design tool for the past few years which allowed for cost and time reduction for both of the operation and the customer. In addition, the optimization tool within HFSS permits us to insert multiple dimensions as variables where the software creates and solve complex matrices with respect to those dimensions in order to output satisfactory electrical results such as VSWR and Coupling.
